Vacuum-Induced Tamponade for Treatment of Postpartum Hemorrhage

چکیده
In Brief BACKGROUND: Postpartum hemorrhage is a main cause of maternal mortality worldwide, with rising incidence, thus demanding new treatment approaches. Intrauterine balloon systems application intrauterine vacuum are promising method. METHOD: All women treated vacuum-induced tamponade using modified system were included in this single-center study. Aiming to reduce uterine size for control postpartum hemorrhage, the was filled 50–100 mL and connected device. Success rate tamponade, defined as no need additional interventional treatment, analyzed by etiology time period use. EXPERIENCE: Vacuum-induced applied 66 women. 86% atony (n=44) 73% due placental pathology (n=22). improved over study period, culminating success 100% second half observation CONCLUSION: This observational supports our pathophysiologic understanding atony: treat an atonic uterus, volume must be reduced, leading coiling spiral arteries and, hence, reduced blood loss. appears easy-to-use, method particularly atony.

Control of Postpartum Hemorrhage Using Vacuum-Induced Uterine Tamponade.
BACKGROUND Postpartum hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide. Vacuum-induced uterine tamponade is a possible alternative approach to balloon tamponade systems for the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage resulting from atony. METHOD In a prospective proof-of-concept investigation of 10 women with vaginal deliveries in a hospital setting who failed first-line therapies f...
متن کاملebb® Complete Tamponade System: effective hemostasis for postpartum hemorrhage
As a leading cause of maternal death, postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) remains a worldwide obstetrical problem. However, in most cases, mortality and morbidity can be averted if efforts are immediately undertaken to achieve hemostasis. Uterine balloon tamponade has been shown to provide effective control of PPH and avoid more invasive surgical procedures and even the emergency peripartum hysterectom...
متن کاملIntrauterine balloon tamponade in the management of postpartum hemorrhage.
This article reviews our experience with the use of intrauterine tamponade with balloon catheters in the management of severe postpartum hemorrhage. This is a case series report of 23 patients with postpartum hemorrhage unresponsive to medical therapy managed with intrauterine balloon tamponade. We identified these patients by International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) codes and by review...
متن کاملUnder Pressure: Intraluminal Filling Pressures of Postpartum Hemorrhage Tamponade Balloons
Objective Uterine tamponade by fluid-filled balloons is now an accepted method of controlling postpartum hemorrhage. Available tamponade balloons vary in design and material, which affects the filling attributes and volume at which they rupture. We aimed to characterize the filling capacity and pressure-volume relationship of various tamponade balloons. Study Design Balloons were filled with wa...
متن کاملEfficacy of Rectal Misoprostol for Prevention of Postpartum Hemorrhage
Postpartum hemorrhage is an important cause of maternal morbidity and mortality after delivery. Active management of postpartum hemorrhage by an uterotonic drug decreases the rate of postpartum hemorrhage. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of rectal misoprostol for prevention of postpartum hemorrhage. This double blind randomized clinical trial was performed on full term pregnan...
